I don't think it will be missed.

Media Composer is great (but ?3,700!) but I've been told by people that the Xpress version is a bit crap. Plus, I don't know if this is coorect, but it doesn't do online editing, does it?

I would probably go with FinalCut Studio (~?600) as it's a decent "cheap" system. But I don't want to be a video editor so I wont [img]wink.gif[/img]

FreeDV is as useless as Pro Tools Free. Both are artificially limited to certain operating systems, crash-prone and extremely restricted on the formats they can digest/output.

I have come off Avid as there are better tools out there for editing (FCP) and sound engineering (Sequoia) that also give a better output.

At Monday's talent circle party I spoke to an old editor who probably started splicing and dicing long before Avid was even on the horizon. He used Avid for many years but has stopped it now as FCP gave him everything he needed and a much better user interface.
